Contend in Prayer 11/12/09

The vote on the Healthcare Bill in the House of Representatives was this past Saturday, November 7, 2009. The House passed the Stupak Amendment (which restricts the government from funding abortions) as well as the Healthcare Bill as a whole.

Praise the Lord for the victory in the House of Representatives!

Now, onto the next stage. The Senate.

President Obama is trying to convince the Senators that the previous [abortion-related] language would prevent abortions from being federally funded but it would actually still provide many private healthcare companies with the right to offer abortions through the means of government-funded insurance. In order to ensure that abortions are not funded by the government, the Stupak Amendment needs to stay in place. President Obama, however, is encouraging the Senate to remove the Amendment from the bill before passing it.

There needs to be a majority of 60 Senators out of 100 to vote in favor of the Stupak Amendment in order for it to stay in place. Right now, the Senate is a majority pro-choice but don't be discouraged because WE HAVE A BIG GOD!

While reading the Bound4Life Blog (http://bound4life.com/blog) yesterday, I found a quote that sums up what our attitude should be about this whole situation.

Our strongest weapon is the Ruler of everything, Jesus Christ, who has all power and authority. We have the right to do the same thing Planned Parenthood is doing, but instead of the President, we have Jesus. Our job is not to accept defeat and “hope” that maybe this won’t go through. One Republican House Member says it’s unlikely the amendment will survive even the House-Senate conference committee. So what’s our response? While they ask in the president’s name, we ask in Jesus’ name.

We need to pray. We need to fast. We need to ask in prayer according to Matthew 21:22 and the promise of God is that we will receive what we ask for if we have faith.

We also need to contact the Senators who are representing us and let them know what we want so that they can represent us in the best way possible. Here is a complete list of United States Senators. http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm

Take action!
